Dutch police ask public to identify blurred images of Amsterdam riot suspects

Views:

Dutch police have released blurred images of five people wanted on suspicion of violence during the Amsterdam riots.

Investigators in the Dutch city have asked anyone who may recognise the people in the pictures to contact them – but it is difficult to notice any distinguishable features in the blurred images. At least one of the men appears to have a beard and all are dressed in casual clothing.

Police said the images represent the five suspects who “committed the most serious violence” and are said to be looking for a further 23 suspects for less serious offences. It is believed that the police will also release blurred photographs of other suspects.

“The investigation team is still busy collecting and analysing images, so more people may be added,” the police said.

“If you were involved in these violent incidents, please report yourself to prevent it from being made public,” the authorities said.

Dutch police have given the five suspects until 8.30pm on Friday November 15 to come forward. If the suspects fail to turn themselves in, the police said they will release unblurred photographs of them.

On Tuesday, Dutch police made five further arrests over the violence following the Maccabi Tel Aviv-Ajax match on Thursday night.

The new arrests come on top of 63 arrests announced by the authorities since the violence erupted in Amsterdam.

Five people were treated in hospital and others sustained minor injuries. According to the Israeli embassy, hundreds of Maccabi fans were attacked.

Police also made several arrests after further unrest in the city on Monday which saw a tram engulfed in flames when dozens of youths dressed in black attacked cars and targeted a tram. Videos on social media show the tram being pelted with fireworks and its windows shattered.

All demonstrations have been banned in Amsterdam until Thursday.
