Hanukkah Reception for Geneva’s Diplomatic Community

GENEVA – The World Jewish Congress partnered with the Israeli Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, to organize a a pre-Hanukkah reception, attended by many members of Geneva’s diplomatic community, including UN Office in Geneva Director General, Tatiana Valovaya, and Swiss Ambassador and next year’s Human Rights Council president, Jürg Lauber.

Ambassador Daniel Meron of Israel welcomed the invited guests and explained the meaning of Hanukkah, a Jewish holiday celebrating resilience. He emphasized Hanukkah’s message of resilience and called for the release of hostages, while guests symbolically lit candles against darkness.

Geneva’s Chief Rabbi Mikhaël Benadmon made the prayers and WJC’s Geneva representative Dr. Leon Saltiel invited several Ambassadors to light symbolically a candle against the darkness. Amongst them was Ambassador Zsófia Havasi, representing the Permanent Mission of Hungary to the UN and WTO, Geneva.
