NEW YORK — Amb. Ronald S. Lauder, president of the World Jewish Congress, issued the following statement welcoming Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States:
“The World Jewish Congress welcomes Donald Trump back to the presidency of the United States with enthusiasm and great optimism.
“President Trump has always been a true friend of the Jewish people. During his previous term he did more to secure peace for Israel, with the Abraham Accords and his sanctions on Iran’s sale of oil, than any U.S. leader since Harry Truman. These sanctions were removed four years ago, setting off a cataclysmic chain of events.
“The U.S. embassy is in Israel’s capital of Jerusalem because of Donald Trump and if the Jewish state is ever endangered again by the forces of terror, we know that President Trump will not hold back the tools it needs to fight back.
“We look forward to great things in the Middle East and throughout the world now that President Trump has returned to the White House.
“Welcome back, my friend.”
