 Nine Indians have been killed in a traffic crash in Saudi Arabia, authorities said Wednesday.

There were no immediate details released from Saudi Arabian officials about the crash, with the Indian Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, announcing the accident.

The consulate described the crash as happening in Jizan in southwest Saudi Arabia.

India’s Foreign Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar separately wrote on X that he was “grieved to learn of this accident and the loss of lives.”

A bus carrying 26 workers collided with a trailer in the Wadi bin Hashbal region of Asir province, south of Mecca, reports said.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.

Earlier, the Indian mission in Jeddah expressed condolences over the deaths of nine Indian nationals in a road accident near Jizan, Saudi Arabia.

“We deeply mourn the tragic loss of 9 Indian nationals in a road accident near Jizan, in the Western Region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” the mission said on X.

It added that the Consulate General of India in Jeddah is providing full support, staying in touch with authorities and the victims’ families.

“We also wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” the statement said.
