Mondelez has three factories in Russia and has been designated as an “International Sponsor of War” by Ukraine’s National Agency on Corruption Prevention due to its ongoing business activities there.
Mondelez has faced a significant boycott in Scandinavia, particularly in Sweden and Norway, due to its continued operations in Russia. Companies like SAS, Norwegian Air, and SJ halted sales of Mondelez products following Ukraine’s designation of Mondelez as an “international sponsor of war” for maintaining business in Russia. https://b4ukraine.org/whats-new/mondelez-backlash
Pro-Israel Connections
Mondelez International has been involved in several initiatives related to Israel, particularly in the food technology sector, investing in Israeli snacks startups, including Torr and The Kitchen.
In 2019, Mondelez International announced a collaboration with Israel’s Strauss-Group powered The Kitchen, a FoodTech-focused incubator. The collaboration provides Mondelez with access to innovative technologies and allows The Kitchen’s startups to benefit from Mondelez’s expertise and resources.
Mondelez, through its SnackFutures hub, made a seed investment in Torr, an early-stage Israeli FoodTech company, alongside The Kitchen Hub. This investment reflects Mondelez’s interest in collaborating with Israeli to develop new snack products.
Another source of concern is whether Mondelez sources ingredients from settlements in the West Bank. While the company hasn’t publicly released detailed information specifying the origin of all its ingredients, this lack of transparency fuels much of the debate surrounding the company’s relationship with Israel.
