The night and early morning hours of Sunday were marked with unrest in southern Lebanon, with two separate Israeli drone strikes killing two people, according to local media reports.

The airstrikes occurred around 02:00 (00:00 GMT) in Yater, in the Bint Jbeil district, and later in the morning east of Meis el-Jabal, in the Marjeyoun district.

Local media reported that the victim of the Yater strike was identified as Mohammad Imad Srour, a young man from Aita el-Chaab in Bint Jbeil.

According to sources, the missile strike also seriously injured another person who was in the vehicle at the time.

Commenting on the attacks, Israeli army Arabic-language spokesperson Avichay Adraee claimed that Israeli aircraft had “eliminated two Hezbollah terrorists” who were allegedly “conducting reconnaissance activities and directing operations” in the Yater and Meis el-Jabal areas.

A similar strike took place on Saturday targeting a van in Bourj el-Moulouk, also in the Marjeyoun district, resulting in at least one other fatality. The Israeli army claimed responsibility for that strike, alleging it had targeted a Hezbollah operative involved in “terrorist activities” in the area.

Meanwhile, around midnight, an Israeli military vessel fired several rounds toward Lebanese territorial waters. It remains unclear what the intended target was.

Between 22:00 and 23:00 (20:00 and 21:00 GMT), Israeli soldiers advanced from the Misgav Am kibbutz toward the area near the cemetery and the destroyed mosque in Adaïssé, inside Lebanese territory.

Another Israeli patrol was reported near Kfar Kila. Gunfire and shelling were also heard in the direction of Kfarchouba, according to local sources.

In the village of Houla (Marjeyoun), the municipality reported overnight that the Israeli army had dug a “trench” toward the el-Abad site near the village, “effectively occupying an area outside the five positions” where Israeli forces have remained stationed in southern Lebanon.

The municipality called on Lebanese authorities to intervene immediately by pressuring the United Nations and the committee overseeing the ceasefire’s implementation to ensure the “usurped” lands are returned.

The ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel came into effect on 27 November 2024, ending 13 months of fighting between Israeli forces and Hezbollah.

Israel has violated the agreement on an almost daily basis since its implementation and continues to occupy five strategic points in southern Lebanon.
