An unofficial Egyptian delegation has traveled to Washington, D.C., to push back against U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to forcibly relocate Palestinians and to clarify Cairo’s position on the Gaza crisis to American officials, members of Congress, and key think tanks.

According to diplomatic sources in Cairo speaking to our Arabic edition, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, the delegation is composed of prominent figures from Egypt’s Mubarak-era political scene, each with deep experience in engaging Western diplomatic and political circles.

Leading the group is Amr Moussa, the former Arab League Secretary-General and Egypt’s Foreign Minister from 1991 to 2001, one of Mubarak’s most influential diplomats and a vocal advocate for Palestinian rights.

He is joined by Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour, a senior Wafd Party leader who later held ministerial positions, including Minister of Tourism and Minister of Trade and Industry in the post-2011 period.

Also part of the delegation is Mohamed Kamal, a political science professor and a key figure in Mubarak’s now-dissolved National Democratic Party, known for his close ties to past policymaking circles.

Rounding out the group is Hossam Badrawi, a physician and politician who briefly served as the National Democratic Party’s Secretary-General in Mubarak’s final days and was among the voices calling for political reform in the regime’s last moments.

Over the coming days, the delegation will hold high-level meetings with U.S. administration officials, members of Congress, and influential think tanks such as the Council on Foreign Relations and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Their message is clear: any forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza is a red line, and a lasting resolution must be political, not dictated by military force.

Egypt has consistently and unequivocally rejected any plans to expel Palestinians from Gaza, warning that such a move would pose a direct threat to Egyptian and regional security.

Cairo has conveyed this position in diplomatic engagements with Washington and other international players, emphasizing that any solution must adhere to international law and established legal frameworks.

The visit comes at a time when pressure is mounting on the U.S. administration to reassess its approach to Gaza, following months of relentless Israeli military operations that have devastated the enclave and killed thousands.
