Yuval Silber was more than a friend, son, and brother— he was a force of light and love, someone who brought strength and inspiration to everyone fortunate enough to know him. His life, marked by service and leadership, left an impact on others that continues to resonate even after his tragic passing.
From a young age, Yuval stood out for his dedication to helping others. As a leader in the Israeli Scouts, he brought people together with his positivity and vision, always making those around him feel seen and valued. Later, through the LEAD project, Yuval had the opportunity to implement his natural leadership skills, empowering others to realize their potential. Whether organizing activities or lending a listening ear, he consistently inspired and uplifted those around him.
When the war broke out on October 7, Yuval didn’t hesitate. He cut short a trip to Thailand to return to Israel and serve, selflessly setting aside his officer rank to join a front-line battalion. It was there, on November 1, 2023, that Yuval made the ultimate sacrifice, giving his life to protect the country and the people he so loved.
Losing Yuval is a heartbreak we will carry forever. But as his family and friends, we knew that his story couldn’t end with his passing. Yuval gave his life for something greater than himself, and we knew we had to honor that. Together with the Peled-Scharf family, we established the Yuval Loan Fund within Ogen, an organization dedicated to helping Israelis in times of need for over 30 years. Among Ogen’s many supporters is Shari Arison, the businesswoman and philanthropist, whose generosity has been instrumental in advancing its wide-ranging initiatives, including support for reservists.
The Yuval Loan Fund is more than a tribute—it’s an extension of who Yuval was. It provides interest-free loans to Israeli reservists and their families, easing the heavy financial burdens that come with serving their country. Launched with an initial donation of $134,000, the fund reflects Yuval’s values: standing with those who stand for all of us, helping those who give everything to protect our future.
As Yuval showed, reservists are the backbone of Israel’s defense. These men and women leave behind families, careers, and daily lives to answer the call of duty, often at great personal and financial cost. Lost wages, mounting expenses, and unforeseen financial burdens are common, especially during extended periods of service. For many, the challenges are compounded by limited government support, leaving those from lower-income backgrounds particularly vulnerable.
The ongoing war has only magnified these struggles. Since the conflict began, Ogen has experienced a 250% increase in loan applications from reservists, underscoring the immense strain they face. To date, the Yuval Loan Fund has distributed over 400 loans totaling $4 million. Yet, the need far exceeds the currently available resources.
That’s why we’re asking for your help. By contributing to the Yuval Loan Fund, you’re not just honoring his memory—you’re standing shoulder to shoulder with the reservists and families who bear the weight of Israel’s safety on their shoulders. Every donation makes a difference.
Contributions can be made through the giving page on Ogen’s website. Every donation—large or small—directly impacts the lives of reservists and their families, helping them overcome financial challenges and focus on their vital roles.
Yuval’s story is one of courage, kindness, and selflessness. By supporting this initiative, we not only honor his legacy but also stand by the reservists who embody his spirit of dedication and sacrifice. Together, we can ensure that Yuval’s legacy continues to inspire and empower for generations to come.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Yuval’s Friends and Family
