A former Palestinian detainee was killed on Saturday after an Israeli airstrike hit a vehicle in the occupied West Bank.

The Gaza Health Ministry revealed two Palestinians were killed south of Jenin, including Abdul Hadi Issam Alawneh,

Alawneh was released under the November 2023 prisoner-captive deal, where 240 Palestinian detainees were freed in exchange for 105 civilian captives.

The strike comes as Israel continues its military offensive, dubbed “Iron Wall”, in the West Bank town for the 13th consecutive day, killing at least 25 Palestinians, with the army expanding to Tulkarm, killing three civilians and now Tammun in Nablus.

As Israel’s war on Gaza has come to a ceasefire, its forces have redirected their assaults on the occupied West Bank.

After Saturday’s exchange, Israel will have released 583 Palestinian detainees and 18 captives released.

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society has described the currently released detainees as showing signs of torture and starvation.

Freed Palestinian prisoners described being tortured, mistreated, abused and sexually humiliated while imprisoned after the November release. Two months later, Israeli forces also re-arrested a teenager who was released as a part of the swap over “terrorist activities” after his release.

Even after being freed, they are still unsafe from Israeli forces, who have raided the homes of former detainees, threatening them and their families, warning them not to celebrate their new-found freedom.
