Daniella Weiss, a leading advocate for the illegal Israeli annexation and settlement of Palestinian territories, has been nominated by Israelis for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.
Two professors from Israel’s Ariel University and Ben-Gurion University submitted Weiss’ candidacy for the award for her “decades-long efforts in strengthening Jewish communities and promoting regional stability”.
In a letter to the Nobel Prize Committee in Norway, Professors Amos Azaria and Shalom Sadik claim that “the establishment of Jewish communities has prevented violence and enhanced security”.
They argued that while “thousands” of Jewish deaths and tens of thousands of Palestinian deaths were recorded in Gaza, the casualties were “significantly lower” in the West Bank due to Weiss’ alleged role in preventing friction.
Israel’s settlements in the West Bank are deemed illegal by most of the international community, and the UN has called on Tel Aviv to end its unlawful occupation of the Palestinian territory.
Weiss heads the radical Nachala settlement organisation and calls for the complete annexation of the occupied West Bank and resettlement of the war-torn Gaza Strip, once inhabited by settlers before Israel left the enclave in 2005.
Like many extremist Israeli leaders,  her inciteful language against the Palestinians has led to violent settler attacks.
Israeli military raids and settler-led violence have left hundreds of Palestinians killed in the West Bank in recent years. These raids spiked since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023.
The winners of the Nobel Peace Prize are expected to be announced in October. The Nobel Prize website says 244 individuals and 94 organisations have been nominated for the award.
