A pro-Israel group dedicated to exposing ‘anti-Jewish hatred’ at Columbia University has drawn ridicule and outrage by doxxing four Jewish pro-Palestine students who chained themselves to the gates near the university’s chapel on Thursday.Â
The group, called Documenting Jew Hatred on Campus at Columbia University, claims to be fighting instances of Jew hatred, yet it has been accused of weaponising antisemitism to push a pro-Israel and anti-Palestinian agenda.
Critics say that its latest expose, where it named four Jewish students who protested in support of Palestinians, only underlies its deliberate attempts to conflate criticism of Israel with antisemitism.
“The only ‘Jew Hatred’ you’re documenting is your own,” wrote Jewish pro-Palestine activist Katie Halper on X.
“You’re smearing 4 brave Jewish students with a conscience. You, however, are too cowardly to identify yourselves. You may not even be Jewish. If you stand by your actions, stop hiding,” she added.Â
The group is known for the practice of ‘doxxing’—publicly revealing the names and private details of pro-Palestine activists at Columbia University without their consent.Â
The practice has been associated with inciting hate campaigns and even violence, but now with the Trump administration cracking down on pro-Palestine protesters across the US, the information could potentially be used by authorities to deport students who are not naturalised US citizens.
When asked by one pro-Israel user of X if the protesters are all Jewish, the pro-Israel group sheepishly replied, “They all appear to be Jewish, yes”.Â
Pro-Palestine activists on social media were quick to turn this inconvenient fact round on them.Â
“This is such a stupid post. You doing hysterical… 100% of these kids are Jewish,” one X user wrote.Â
“Maybe stop harassing Jewish kids?,” political activist and former TV host Briahna Joy Gray wrote to the group.
Israel’s brutal war on Gaza has seen a huge amount of young Jewish American activists rally to the cause of Palestinians as they face unprecedented violence.
In a poll conducted by the Israeli government’s Ministry for Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism last year, it was found that 66% of Jewish Americans aged between 14-18 sympathised with Palestinians.Â
