The US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff will engage in a new round of talks concerning the Gaza ceasefire on Wednesday in Qatar, after he landed in the capital Doha on Tuesday.
Wiktoff, whose proposal includes a rough two-month extension of the ceasefire and the release of 10 captives, will meet Wednesday with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
Hamas on Tuesday said that a fresh round of ceasefire talks began in the Qatari capital Doha, with the Palestinian movement approaching the negotiations “positively and responsibly”. The Palestinian group is aiming to move onto the second phase of the ceasefire, while Israel is refusing to do so, – only wanting to extend the first one which expired over a week ago.
The Israeli army continues to carry out a number of ceasefire violations in the Gaza Strip, with gunboats stationed off the coast of Gaza shelling areas in the north of the Palestinian territory, according to Palestinian media.
Forces have opened fire in southern and eastern Rafah on Wednesday, as well as the city of Abasan al-Kabira, located east of Khan Younis. Videos posted online by the Quds News Network showed soldiers firing indiscriminately shooting at they drive through the city’s streets.
Meanwhile, the death toll from Israel’s multiple attacks including a strike, on Gaza on Tuesday has risen to eight, after a Palestinian girl who was shot and killed near Deir el-Balah. The Israeli military said it had targeted “terrorists” posing a threat to troops.
