JERUSALEM — During a fireside chat at the 17th World Jewish Congress (WJC) Plenary Assembly in Jerusalem, Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar delivered an in-depth overview of the State of Israel’s relationship with Jewish communities around the world as well as the country’s ongoing humanitarian efforts in Gaza. Sa’ar reaffirmed the enduring bonds between Israel and the Diaspora, emphasizing the “shared destiny” and mutual responsibility that unite the Jewish people globally.
The foreign minister’s remarks were warmly received by WJC delegates representing more than 70 countries, who welcomed his call to deepen engagement and partnership during a time of heightened global challenges.
Following the conversation with Minister Sa’ar WJC delegates transferred to the plenary hall where they welcomed the families of four Israeli hostages taken on October 7th. Each family member shared stories of their loved ones while urging the assembled WJC leaders to keep fighting for their return after 592 days in captivity.
“We live in a time when people have short attention spans,” said Yasmin Magal, a cousin of Israeli-American solider Omer Neutra. “We need to keep the story alive until Omer—and everyone else—is back home.”
