MEXICO CITY – Members of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) Jewish Diplomatic Corps presented an exhibition to remember and highlight the life and legacy of Jewish communities in Arab countries prior to their historic expulsion. The event, the first of its kind, was held in Mexico City in November 2024, with over 1,000 participants from the Monte Sinaà and Sephardic communities attending. The success of the exhibition has since inspired plans to eventually showcase the exhibit in other Jewish schools and institutions. Â
Leading the exhibit were WJC Jewish Diplomatic Corps members Adela Smeke and Sara Galico, who engaged with the audience by explaining the meaning behind featured panels, photographs, and testimonies, allowing visitors to learn about the rich cultural contributions that the Jewish people made. Â
In the coming months, the exhibition will be taken to other institutions, accompanied by educational projects such as lectures and workshops, especially targeting young people, to encourage reflection on the importance of historical memory and cultural diversity. Â
Adela and Sara expressed their commitment to continue carrying out these projects in Mexico and around the world, with the goal of educating younger generations about the the need to ensure remembrance of the circumstances that led to Jewish expulsion from the MENA region and to promote tolerance in society. The impact of the exhibition has been significant, both in terms of the high number of visitors and the strong emotional and educational component it has left in participants. Â
